The Beginning!

Hello, my dear friends. I have decided to use this blogging forum to write about the ethos of Indian mythology (apart from the wild party pictures). This is also giving me an opportunity to study more about what it is all about while writing my thoughts and answering queries (if any ever come up).

The Bhagavad-gita is universally renowned as the jewel of India's spiritual wisdom. Spoken by Lord Krishna (the blue god) his intimate disciple Arjuna (one of the 5 brothers and possibly the greatest archer), the Gita's seven hundred concise verses provide a definitive guide to the science of self realization. No other philosophical or religious work reveals, in such a lucid and profound way, the nature of consciousness, the self, the universe and the Supreme.

In the Indian judicial system when you are in the courts the oath is taken by placing your right hand on The Gita. The Gita is an epic that contains lessons of truth, justice, morality and spirituality on how one must lead life. The book is a story of a family that is torn apart by greed, obsession with power and in the end destroyed. Essentially its the triumph of good over evil. The principle characters of the movie are The Pandava's. 5 brothers and one wife. Yep! Its bigamy in reverse. Draupadi (the wife) was married to all the 5 brothers. For those about to start snickering or rolling your eyes there is an explanation for that :-)

The saga of the 5 brothers exiled from thier kingdom was due to pride. Pride has always been the downfall of man and here too. What makes the story even more interesting is the blind devotion to the oldest brothers shown by the younger siblings who could have stopped him from going down the path of destruction. So much so that when he put his wife on the betting table, it was not stopped. The brother's had utmost faith, and trust.
